Economy of Chennai

Chennai is the fourth biggest metropolitan city of India. As per the global standard is concerned the city is one of the biggest metropolitan cities of the world. The economy of Chennai is now at a booming stage. City is now the hub of automobile industry with two reputed automobile majors like Ashok Leyland and TVS operating from this city. There is also a bicycle-manufacturing giant like TI cycle that operates from this city.

Chennai has one biggest advantage. The city has one international airport and two ports through which the goods are exported to overseas. Apart from the development in automobile industry, Chennai has excelled in software services, hardware manufacturing, healthcare and financial services industries. Chennai city also has made inroads in tyre. Madras Rubber Factory has their corporate offices in the city and the manufacturing units slightly outskirts of the city. Ambattur Industrial Estate is a reputed industrial zone of the city. In this industrial zone there the manufacturing units of some of the reputed automobile majors, textile majors and SEZ for foot ware and apparel manufacturing. Chennai accounts for around 50 per cent of leather exports.
